Brian & Angela ARE ENGAGED!!
Angela, is one of my closest and dearest friends. So, of course I was thrilled when Brian told me he wanted me to capture his surprise proposal in New Orleans. We were down south celebrating her 30th birthday in her favorite place, so the whole weekend, the whole day, her birthday, and the surprise proposal was just, perfect.
New Orleans, Louisiana – a city not only frequented by Angela and me, but one that caters to our love of food, music and that ‘Big Easy’ lifestyle that we all one-day hope to live – away from the schedules, deadlines and ‘chaos’ that defines our everyday lives. I proposed to Angela on Saturday, February 9th – her birthday - in Jackson Square. Surrounded by a crowd of onlookers in front of St. Louis Cathedral, I told Angela “I brought you here today to ask you to be my wife, my companion, my lighthouse, my never-ending love.”
I know we’ll be back to NOLA regularly, and when we do, we’ll always have a place to stand and remember that this is where the rest of our lives together began.
The morning of my 30th birthday Brian took me out to brunch in New Orleans where we indulged in corn bread and bourbon slushies. He then insisted we should walk over to Café Du Monde and get Beignets (after we were already in a food coma). As we approached the restaurant, we both decided the line was too long so Brian said, “let’s go walk around Jackson Square” while we waited for the line to go down. Jackson Square is one of the first places we visited in New Orleans two years ago and is right in the center of the beautiful French Quarter. In front of the St. Louis Cathedral he got down on one knee, and with tears in his eyes asked me to be his wife and spend the rest of our lives together. After we kissed, I realized we had a huge crowd of people around us, including our close friends and a woman we didn’t even know with tears in her eyes. New Orleans will forever hold a special place in our hearts, as it signifies the beginning of our lives together and our future sanctuary.
HOW WE MET
It was fate – simple as that. I met Angela within the workplace in 2012. Our relationship blossomed from colleagues to friends, curious flirting to lovers. In a period of my life where I was fighting every day to regain any semblance of normalcy, security and joy, Angela befriended me and became a lighthouse for me – an angel of sorts.
Call it what you want; luck, [divine] destiny, ‘stars aligning’, fate – Angela came into my life when I needed her the most and I’m blessed to have her by my side for the rest of it.
Brian and I met at work 6 years ago and instantly formed a friendship that would later transform into a love I never knew existed. We bonded over events in our lives that we could relate to; in an essence we were each other’s shoulders to lean on at times. As a few years went by as friends, it hit me one day that Brian was the most compatible man that I had ever met and I wanted to be around his smile, his unwavering sense of humor and his ability to ground me every day. One Friday evening in 2015, I found myself in Stillwater where I attended my friends local show. As fate had it, Brian was also in Stillwater that evening for a friend’s birthday. All it took was a first kiss in a parking lot that evening, one afternoon boat ride and many Vikings games to follow.
I always knew there was something about Brian that just felt right. To this day, I’ve never met anyone that loves and supports me the way he does, the way he looks at me still takes my breath away. He was right under my nose, and I’m never letting him go.
Naturally, we took the time afterwards for a quick portrait session before we went out that night to celebrate their new promise to one another :)
